My sick baby girl :(

Poor Sage is sick with a cold :( A few days ago, I noticed she was starting to get a little congested. Then Thursday night, it hit her full force! She was SO congested, that she was coughing and gagging on her mucus, and then throwing up. I spent the whole night sitting on the couch with her, because she could not lay down flat, or she couldn't breath! My poor baby! She is SO cranky, and I really don't blame her, I have a sinus infection right now, and it sucks being sick!!

Last night was a bit better, but she is still quite congested. She isn't eating as much as usual, so I am a bit worried that I will start producing less milk, but I am sure once she is better my milk will pick up again.

So hopefully we are past the worst, and she will start to get better. I hate knowing that she is so uncomfortable, and that there isn't much I can do for her :(

Cuddly Wrap

So a few months ago, my sister bought this "cuddly wrap" to use with Lily. Apparently she paid over $70 for it, and I really don't know why she got it, since she never looks after Lily anyways! (But that is a totally different story, and one day if I have the time I will update on that situation, for now, lets just say it's NOT good.) Anyways, I guess she tried it a couple of times and decided she didn't like it, so it has been sitting in her room.

I bought a Hotsling to use with Sage, but I don't quite like it as much as I had hoped. It just seems too tight or something, and I feel like I am squishing Sage!

So my mom pulled out this wrap for me to try. Of course my sister lost the instructions for it (go figure!), but I started looking on-line and realized that it is the exact same as a Moby wrap, so it was easy to figure out how to use it!

I tried it the other day, and I LOVE IT!! I put Sage in it, and vacuumed the whole house! It was very comfortable to wear, and since it is a wrap, it is easy to make it as tight or as loose as you want it!

I think I will use this lots, since Sage seems to be fussy, and likes to be held. This way I can "hold" her, and get stuff done too! :)

1 month already?!

It has been one month since Sage was born. I seriously can not believe it. It has gone by SO fast, it's not even funny. I really want time to slow down, so that my baby can stay a baby for a LONG time!!

I took Sage to the health center yesterday, to check her weight and measure her. At one month old, Sage weighs 10 lbs exactly, and is 21 inches long. She is in the 75th percentile for weight, and the 50th percentile for height.

Sage still sleep for most of the day, and her eating is still pretty inconsistent. During the day, she usually eats every 2 - 3 hours, and once in a while she will go for a 4 hour stretch. At night she is very inconsistent too, eating every 2 - 5 hours.

When Sage is awake, she seems to be quite fussy. She wants to be held, and I am constantly having to change the position I am holding her in, because she isn't happy for very long in one position. I am not sure if she is gassy, or what, but she definitely seems to like being more upright.

Sage does not like her bath. All of my other kids liked their baths after the first few. Not Sage. She will scream through her whole bath, and only stop once I take her out!

Sage also HATES her carseat. She starts screaming as soon as I put her in it, and she will scream the whole way to wherever we are going. It definitely makes it stressful sometimes, especially since we live in a small town, so we frequently have to go to one of the nearby cities, which are 15 minutes, and 30 minutes away.

I love my little girl SO much, but she definitely seems to be fussier and harder to please than the rest of my kids were! I should have known that would happen, an easy baby would have been just too convenient! lol!!

4 weeks old!

Today my baby girl is 4 weeks old! She will be 1 month on Thursday, so I will do a full update then. Here are a couple pictures from today :)

Quiet Time!

This is what "quiet time" looked like at our house yesterday!! :) If only it looked like this EVERY day! lol!

Weight Loss (or lack of...)

I always seem to struggle to lose weight after a pregnancy, I don't know why I thought this time would be any different :(

With both my other pregnancies, I have followed the same pattern - good initial weight loss in the first couple of weeks, and then it slows to almost nothing, fluctuating between losing a little some weeks, then gaining a little other weeks. This trend continues until I stop nursing.

Unfortunately I am NOT one of those lucky people who easily lose weight while nursing. In fact, I am the exact opposite. Something about nursing makes my body hang onto extra weight, making it very difficult to lose. Once I stop nursing, I have an easier time losing weight.

Since I am NOT willing to stop nursing just to lose weight easier, I am going to just have to tough it out, and try to do the best I can.

Today, at almost 4 weeks postpartum (I weigh myself every Monday), I only lost half a lb this week. I guess it's better than a gain, but not much.

I need to try really hard to eat as healthy as I can, and somehow try to find time to exercise, then maybe I will see some better weight loss. Unfortunately, "me time" isn't exactly at the top of my priority list right now, and I am still struggling with snacking on junk.

Listening

I don't know what the problem is, if it's their age, or lack of discipline, or if they are just bad kids. But Kadance, Cole, and Hayden, DO NOT listen. I am getting VERY frustrated, because they ignore everything I say!

I will tell them to stop doing something, and they just keep doing it. I will tell them to bring something to me (Sage's soother that they stole, or a toy that they are hitting someone with), and they stand there and look at me, or run away. It is the most frustrating when I am in the middle of nursing Sage, and I can't get up and follow through with my threats of "Do you need to go stand in the corner?!" or "Do you need a spank on the bum?!"

I feel like I am yelling at them ALL the time. I don't know what to do to make them listen!

No naps, and TRYING to clean!

So, today is day 4 of no more naps. The kids seem to be doing okay with it, but they are definitely more cranky and tired by late afternoon! I have pushed lunch time back from 11am, to 12pm, and then at 1pm we have "quiet time", where they have to sit on the couch and watch TV, for at least 1 hour. I have been sitting with them, since they (especially Kadance) are having a bit of a hard time sitting still for so long! A couple of times Hayden has fallen asleep, but not the other two. The good thing about them being more tired, is that they have been going to bed great at night, but they are still getting up at 6:30am!! They all have a cold right now, so I KNOW that is adding extra crankiness, so I am hoping once they are all healthy again they will be a bit happier :)

We have also been very successful with NO TV in the mornings, which I am very proud of :)

I have been TRYING to get back into my house cleaning routine this week, but with no break from the kids all day I am struggling to get stuff done. Evenings seem to be a bit of a fussy time for Sage, so I am not getting much done then either! I finally have the motivation to clean, just NO time!

Growth Spurt

Sage MUST be in her 3 week growth spurt. Yesterday evening she ate EVERY hour. Last night, she was up to eat every 2 hours. All day today she has been eating every 1 - 2 hours. I am exhausted. Hopefully this doesn't last for too much longer, and she will go back to more spaced out feedings - especially at night!!

At about 2 1/2 weeks old, Sage started smiling. I know that is kind of young, but I know they are "real" smiles, because she will look right at me when I am talking to her, and smile! Today I was trying to take some pictures of her, and she started smiling at me! I got a couple shots of her kind of smiling, although they are a bit blurry.

3 Weeks Old!

Sage is 3 weeks old today :) She had her 3 week check-up this morning, and she now weighs 9 lbs 7 ozs, and is 21 inches long! The doctor said she is doing great :) I don't want my little girl to grow, I want her to stay little forever! lol!

Four out of the last five nights (with Sunday night being the exception), Sage has gone for a 5 1/2 - 6 hour stretch between feedings. I am LOVING it!! Last night, she ate at 8:30pm, so I figured she would want to eat again in a few hours. I wanted to go to bed, so I tried to feed her again at 10:30pm. She would NOT wake up, so I put her into bed, and expected her to be up in another hour or two. She didn't get up until 2:00am!!

I weighed myself yesterday morning, and I gained 1 lb this past week. It didn't surprise me, I kind of figured I might gain, since I was eating REALLY crappy last week. But like I said in my previous post, this week I am starting to eat healthy, so hopefully I will start to lose again.

Time for some changes!

I have decided it's time for some changes around here.

Change #1 - I am going to give up on naps, and try having "quiet time" in the afternoon, where the kids can sit on the couch, and watch TV or a movie. I am so tired of fighting with them, and every new thing I try works for a week or two, and then they are right back to goofing around and not sleeping.

Change #2 - We will no longer have the TV on in the morning. Throughout my pregnancy, the triplets started watching more and more TV. It has now gotten to the point where as soon as they get up in the morning, they are asking for the TV to be turned on, and it stays on until they go to bed at night. That is WAY too much TV. Plus, if they aren't aloud TV all morning, then maybe they will actually sit quietly and watch it for "quiet time" in the afternoon!

Change #3 - I am no longer going to snack continuously on junk food! I am embarrassed to admit that when I am pregnant, I get into REALLY bad eating habits. I really want to lose all my pregnancy weight (my ticker on the side shows how much I have lost, and how much I have left to lose!), as well as an additional 40 lbs. Once we get our basement done, we are going to borrow Gairod's parents treadmill, and I want to start exercising. But for now, I want to at least focus on eating healthy.

I think that is enough changes for now! lol! I am going to start all these things tomorrow, which is Monday.

2 great nights and size 1 diapers!

The last two nights have been great!! Sage has eaten at 9/9:30pm, and then gone to bed and not gotten up until 3/3:30am! That is SIX hours between feedings! Then she goes back to bed, and isn't up again until 7/7:30am. So really, she has only been getting up ONCE at night! I am REALLY hoping that she will continue this trend :)

Today we will be using up the last of Sage's newborn diapers, and moving her up to size 1. That makes me sad. The triplets were in preemie diapers, and then newborn diapers for SO long! 2 1/2 weeks just seems like such a short time to be in newborn diapers :(

On Tuesday Sage goes to the doctor for a check-up. I am anxious to see how much she weighs now!! :)

A photographer I am NOT!

I really wish I had photography skills, so I could take nice pictures of my kids. I always look at other peoples pictures, and I am jealous of them. They use neat angles, and do cool close-ups. Unfortunately this is just NOT a skill I possess. BUT, that doesn't stop me from trying! ;) Here are some of my sad attempts:

New Boots!!

On Sunday, I went shopping and got the 4 older kids new snow boots. Everyone had out grown their boots from last year, and since it is now snowing here (blah!), they all needed new ones. It is amazing how the little things, like new boots, can excite my kids so much! lol! The little kids were especially excited, since they got Backyardigan boots! :)

2 weeks old!! :)

Sage is 2 weeks old today! :)

Yesterday her cord stump fell off. I am glad it is finally off, because it was stressing me out! lol! It kept on bleeding, and looked weird (not infected or anything, just weird!), and we even ended up calling the health nurse about it a few days ago, because we weren't sure if it was healing properly or not. Pathetic, I know, my 5th kid, and I have to call the health nurse about an umbilical stump!!

Anyways, so far, Sage is kind of hard to figure out. Just when I think she is settling into a routine as far as eating/sleeping goes, she decides to change it up! For a couple days, she was eating about every 3 hours during the day, and going right to sleep after. Now for the last couple of days, she has been quite fussy, and wants to be held after. Whenever I put her down, she will be fine for a few minutes, and then she starts to cry, and just wants me to hold her. I would LOVE to just sit and hold her all day, but the reality is that I can't! I have other kids and a house to tend to! She is starting to have more awake periods, and she likes to just stare at me. I talk softly to her, and she sits there looking and listening so intently!! I love her SO much!

As for me, I lost another 5 lbs this week. That is a total of 27.5 lbs in two weeks. Right now I am at that annoying stage, where my maternity pants are too big, but my regular clothes are too small. So I am stuck wearing sweat pants, or yoga pants, and I just look fat! I am giving myself one more week of eating what I want, and then I am going to cut out junk food, and make sure I eat mainly healthy. Since this is my last baby, I am determined to lose all the pregnancy weight, and hopefully another 30 - 40 lbs.

I am starting to get the urge to clean my house again. lol! That is good, because it means things are getting back to normal. I am feeling really good physically, besides being tired, but I am learning to live with that! I am hoping next week to start getting back into my daily chore schedule, and start getting this house back in order!!

Happy Thanksgiving! :)

It's Thanksgiving weekend! Last night we went to my parents house for dinner, tonight we are going to Gairod's parents house for dinner, and tomorrow morning we are going to my parents house for brunch!! I love eating at other people's houses, it means I don't have to cook! lol! Here are a few pictures from yesterday.

Getting Better :)

After a week and a half of ups and downs, good days/nights and bad days/nights, I think I am finally starting to settle in as a mommy of 5!

I am feeling more in control, and like I can handle things. Sage seems to be settling into a more predictable eating pattern, and is letting me get a bit more sleep at night!

The kids all seem to be back to normal, and don't have any issues with Sage. In fact, the boys, for the most part, couldn't really care less about her! They ask to hold her once in a while, but I barely get her into their arms and they announce "done!" and move on to something else! lol! Kadance on the other hand LOVES her little sister! She really likes to hold her, and when I am holding Sage, or she is in her chair, Kadance likes to sit beside her and talk softly to her! It is really quite cute. :)

BAD night!

Last night was NOT a good night.

To start with, Gairod had to work late, again. He has had to work late everyday this week. Normally I wouldn't mind too much, but with a new baby, who seems to be more fussy around dinner time/early evening, and trying to get the rest of the kids fed, bathed, and into bed, I really wish he could be home to help! THEN, he called me when they were done work (around 7pm), and said that they were just going to go to a pub for a few drinks and some appetizers. Seriously?! I am EXHAUSTED, I still have to bath Sage, make Jade's lunch, do the dishes, do some laundry, and I haven't eaten any dinner yet, and he is going out to socialize?! I was NOT very happy. Anyways, he got home a few hours later, and I didn't say much to him.

I finished feeding Sage and got her into her crib at about 10:30pm. I was really tired, so I went to bed right away, and was hoping for some decent sleep. At 12:30am, Sage woke up to eat. So I got up and fed her. She ate, and ate, and ate! Then I tried to lay her back down in her crib, and she started fussing. So I took her out, and she still wanted to eat. So I fed her a bit more, she feel asleep, and I tried to put her in her crib. She started fussing again. This cycle continued until 2:30am, when I couldn't take it anymore!! I finally ended up just bringing her into bed with me, and nursing her laying down.

I also need to back-track, and let you know that the day we had Sage, they stared ripping up our street, to replace our water lines. So our entire street is blocked, off, and we have to park in the alley, and use our back door. This is a major pain, since our back landing is about 2 feet by 2 feet, has no closet for coats, and no room for shoes.

Since they are replacing the water lines, they have us on a water line that is above ground, going across everyones lawns, and going to each house with a garden hose. A few days after they started all of this, it started to get really cold. On Monday, one of the hoses burst, and we had no water for most of the morning. Great, just what I needed with three toddlers and a newborn!!

Last night, at around 2am (just after one of the times I tried to lay Sage down) I went to the bathroom, and discovered that we had no water AGAIN!! So this pissed me off even more, because I KNEW I wasn't going to be able to have a shower in the morning, and if I was going to be up all night, I at least wanted to be able to have a nice hot shower in the morning to make myself feel some-what human!!

So with no sleep, and no water, it was NOT a good night!!

1 week old, 1 week postpartum

My baby girl is 1 week old today!! I can't believe that a week has gone by already. It actually makes me sad, time is already going by too fast.

Nursing is going great, but totally unpredictable! Sometimes Sage will go for long stretches (last night she went for 5 hours!!), and other times she will eat, and then want to eat again half an hour later!! That makes it a little difficult to plan things around her eating times, but I am sure as she gets a bit older things will even out a bit more!

The triplets seem to be adjusting more and more each day. The first few days were hard, they were definitely out of sorts! Cole was SOOO clingy, Hayden was acting out, and Kadance was overly emotional! Even Jade was acting a bit clingy the first few days, always wanting to sit RIGHT beside me! But like I said, they seem to be getting back to normal :)

I am feeling better and better each day, although I DO need to slow down a bit. Yesterday I was feeling good. I took the kids to playgroup, took Sage to her doctor appointment, and got a few things done around the house. Now today I am feeling it. My body is much more sore today.

At the end of my pregnancy, I had gained a total of 44 lbs. At 1 week postpartum, I am down 22.5 lbs. I have lost HALF of my pregnancy weight in 1 week :) Yay!!

First Check-Up :)

Sage had her first doctor appointment today! Everything is good, and she is up to 7lbs 15ozs. The doctor said that I can go back to demand feeding her, which I am happy about, because there are times that she will go for 4 - 4 1/2 hours between feedings!!

Her next check up will be at 3 weeks old :)

Hormones

After both of my previous pregnancies, I can distinctly remember having one night, shortly after birth, where I would wake up SEVERAL times, drenched in sweat, freezing cold, and needing to pee, not now, but RIGHT NOW!

With Jade is was a few days after she was born, after I was home from the hospital. With the triplets, it was only a day or two after they were born, and I was still in the hospital. That one really sucked, because it was hard for me to get up because of my c-section, and I was still hooked up to an IV, so it was quite the process to get out of bed and to the bathroom, without peeing my pants! lol!

Just yesterday, I started thinking about the fact that I hadn't had that night yet, and Sage was 5 days old. Well all it took was thinking about it, to make it happen! lol! I got up to go pee at about 1am, and as I was getting back into bed, I all of a sudden got the chills, BIG TIME! I was shaking so hard and uncontrollably, that it actually woke Gairod up! He moved over and snuggled me, to try and help me warm up. Then I started crying, because I was so cold. Man, gotta love post-pregnancy hormones! lol! After that, I woke up several more times, damp and chilled, needing to pee!

I understand that it is just a normal part of the post-pardom process, but really, as if a new mother isn't up enough times with her baby, does she really need to get up several more?!?!

The next few days

Friday morning, Gairod had to work. I was quite nervous about going it alone, my first day home, especially since Sage had another rough night, and I only got about 2 hours of sleep! Luckily, the morning went quite smoothly, and I managed to get everyone fed and dressed! lol!

In the afternoon, the health nurse came. She weighed Sage, and she was down to 7lbs 8ozs, a 9% loss. The nurse said that between 5-10% is normal, but they start to get a bit concerned when it gets closer to 10. But since I am not a first time mom, and Sage was nursing well, she figured my milk should come in really soon, and Sage would start gaining again. But she told me to make sure I am not letting her go more than 2 1/2 - 3 hours between feeding, until my doctor appointment on Monday, when we make sure she has started gaining weight. My milk ended up coming in later that evening! Friday night was MUCH better, and I ended up getting about 6 hours total sleep.

On Saturday, we gave Sage her first bath :) She screamed through the whole thing, but that didn't surprise me, as I have yet to see a baby who actually likes their first bath! lol!

Today, the lack of sleep has really started to catch up with me. I got about 4 1/2 hours of sleep last night, which is just NOT enough for me!! I really think I need to start trying to nap in the afternoon, when the triplets are napping, if Sage will cooperate! :)

As for me, besides the tiredness, I am feeling pretty good. I had a small tear that required a few stitches, so I am a little extra tender in that area. My entire body is still quite sore as well, especially my hips and lower back. But I guess that's to be expected after the work of labour and delivery, and everything trying to get back to normal now that there isn't a baby taking up so much room! But compared to a c-section recovery, I am doing GREAT!! I can pick up my kids, go up and down stairs, bend over, sit up, etc. I am SOOO happy I got my VBAC!! :)

Sage's first bath!

Look at all that dark hair!
My precious baby girl!
