Weight loss - Week 16 & 17

I did it! I surpassed my first weight loss goal!!! :)

While we were still up at the Lake in July, I set a goal of getting back to my pre-Sage-pregnancy weight, by Sage's 2nd birthday. When I got pregnant with Sage, I weighted 189lbs. Today, 4 days before her birthday, I weigh 187.5lbs!! I am SO happy! :)

When I first set this goal, I honestly wasn't sure I would be able to achieve it. It was pretty steep, and I would need to average about 2lbs of weight loss a week! But as I got closer, I became quite positive that I would be able to do it! Then my leg started bugging me, reducing my exercising, which in turn slowed my weight loss. Once again, I wasn't sure I would be able to achieve it.

Last week, I only lost half a pound. We had a very busy weekend, with a couple of different events, which meant eating out almost all weekend. I knew I ate too much, and I knew my weight loss would be very low, if at all. Last week, I weighed in at 192.5lbs. That meant I would need to lose 3.5lbs to reach my goal of 189lbs this week. I really watched my eating this week, and when I stepped on the scale this morning, I was thrilled to see that I had lost 5lbs, bringing me below my goal, at 187.5lbs!

I have a weight loss app on my phone, and I am happy to say that my weight has moved out of the "obese" BMI, and into the "overweight" BMI. I am well on my way to becoming a healthier person, for my children, and for myself :)

My exercising, unfortunately, is down to non-existent. To make a long story short, when I was in highschool, I ended up with a stress fracture in my leg from running. I think I have a stress fracture again. My left tibia has been hurting since shortly after I started running. I haven't mentioned it, because I have been in denial, and hoping the pain would just go away. I know that pain, it's the same pain I had before, and the same leg. But instead of going away, it is getting worse. I haven't done any running or walking for the past 2 weeks, and my leg still aches with pain - in my bone. I need to get into my doctor, and get a referral to a sports medicine clinic.

So, for now, I will just continue to eat healthy, and hopefully continue to lose weight. I have set a new weight loss goal for myself. I would like to be down to 170lbs, by Christmas. That gives me 3 months, to lose 17.5lbs. Since there are a few bad food holidays coming up (Thanksgiving, Halloween, Christmas), I am thinking it might be a bit trickier to lose with diet alone. But I am going to keep on trying! I've made it this far, and I am determined to keep going! :)

Adjusting

Well, we are 1 week into Gairod's CFD (Calgary Fire Department) training, and we are adjusting to our new life style. I have to admit, I don't think I realized just how stressful and hard the training process would be - on ALL of us!!

Gairod has to be up and out the door by 6am, to be at training by 7am. After a 10 hour day, they are done at 5pm, and he is home around 6pm, depending on traffic. We used to eat supper at 5pm, and since I am a big believer in eating as a family, we have pushed back our dinner time to 6pm. This is an adjustment. I kind of like the fact that I have an extra hour to get things done in the afternoon, but I DON'T like the fact that we are now cramped for time after dinner! The four youngest kids usually go to bed at 7pm. Obviously if we aren't eating until 6pm, there is no way to have everyone fed, bathed, and into bed by 7pm! So I have been playing around with things this week, and I think we will probably push back their bedtime to 7:30pm.

Gairod says training is hard. There is a lot to learn, as well as tough physical demands. He is exhausted when he gets home. He eats, studies for a few hours, and goes to bed. I am trying really hard to just let him do what he needs to do, and not bother him with other stuff, but it is hard on me too, having to take on the brunt of everything else! I just want him to get through training, do well, and get onto actually working. The first day, one of the training officers told them that not all of them would make it through the training. There are so many little things, that they have to do exactly right, every time, or it counts as a strike against them. If the get too many strikes (3), they're done. I know this worries Gairod, and stresses him out. Him being stressed out, stresses me out! I just REALLY hope he makes it through training, and becomes a fire fighter. Especially since at the moment he doesn't even have welding to fall back on.......

That's the stress I was talking about in my last post. Just before Gairod left for B.C. on September 1st, he dropped his truck off at Airdrie Pontiac, to get the hail damage fixed. Sometime between then and the 6th, it was stolen. To make a very long story short, his truck was found in NE Calgary, with the topper stolen off of it, various stuff stolen from the inside (carseats, satellite radio, GPS, etc), and ALL of his welding stuff stolen out of the back. Airdrie Pontiac is saying that they aren't liable, and thanks to a miscommunication with our insurance company, they are saying that we are not covered for Gairod's work stuff. The thieves bagged the shit out of Gairod's truck, and ruined it mechanically, so it is going to be written off. So right now, we have no truck, and no welding stuff. We are in the process of talking with a lawyer, to have Airdrie Pontiac held accountable for the lost welding stuff. They do not have a secure lot, and didn't even know that our truck was gone, until Gairod called them, after he heard from the police!

SO you can see why we are stressed, and why it is SO important that Gairod makes it through training!!

Weight Loss - Week 14 & 15

Lets see, where did I leave off?? Oh yes, last time I posted, 2 weeks ago, I had just taken 4 days off, because my calf was hurting. So that Monday, I got back on the treadmill, and ran 5K. At the time I was thrilled, but now I realize it was a stupid move. My leg was hurting quite a bit after that, so the next day (Tuesday), I only ran 3.5K. Unfortunately, my leg was still hurting. A lot. I decided I needed to smarten up, and stop running until my leg was feeling completely better. So I took the rest of that week off, and I took ALL of last week off. My leg was feeling quite a bit better, so I decided to try getting back on the treadmill yesterday (Monday). I only did 15 minutes, but I could feel it in my leg, so I decided to stop. This morning when I got up, my leg was quite tight and sore, so I have decided that I better go back to resting it a while longer. Honestly, I am disappointed, and upset. I want to run. I was really enjoying running, and it was really helping with my weight loss. But I realize that if I keep pushing it, I am just going to end up with a serious injury. So I will hold myself back, and rest, until my leg is completely healed. Then I will start back slow, and gradually increase my mileage.

So seeing as I have not been able to exercise, my weight loss hasn't been great. I lost 1 lb last week, and 1 lb this week. I know that the important thing is that I keep on losing, and I have, every single week. It would just be nice if I could lose a little bit more each week. We've also had some major stress going on this week (I will explain in another post), so I did cheat a bit on my eating - I HATE that stress makes me want to eat!!

First Day of School! :)

Today we had our first day of school! Yes, I know today is supposed to be a holiday, but Gairod is in BC right now, so we didn't have anything else to do, and well, I am a little bit anal about starting on a Monday, so we decided to start today! :)

I took everyone's picture this morning, before we got started:

Jade - Age 9, Grade 4

Kadance - Age 4 1/2, Preschool

Cole - Age 4 1/2, Preschool

Hayden - Age 4 1/2, Preschool

Sage - Age 23 months, Pre-Preschool :)

I had a whole new morning routine planned out, and I am happy to say that it worked really well! Jade got all of her stuff done sooner then I thought she would, and the triplets were very enthusiastic about "doing school"! The only thing I wasn't really prepared for, was how much Sage insisted on doing everything that the triplets were doing!! I'm not really sure why it surprised me, as she has been like a shadow to them lately! So I will have to make sure that I have "school stuff" for her to do too! :)

The little kids "Morning Board"

Hard at work! :)

I decided to make our first day of school fun, by doing a special lunch! We had make-your-own mini pizza's, and over the weekend I made "pencil" cookies! The kids all loved it!! :)

Pencil Cookies!

You really would think I have too much time on my hands, wouldn't you?!

All in all we had a great first day back at school! I'm really hoping things continue to go smoothly, and everyone learns lots this year!

On a related note, my mom works at a school, and they were getting rid of a TON of curriculum! So she brought a bunch of it home for me! There is so much stuff - from preschool all they way to middle school! Now I just need to find the time to wade through it all, and see what I might be able to use! :)

One more week!!

We are going to enjoy one more week of summer, and then it will be time to start back to school! :)

This past weekend, I went through all of Jade's grade 4 stuff, and got everything sorted, figured out, and ready for our first day of school! I am a bit nervous this year, as I have more work planned for her then last year, and I plan on her doing a lot of it independently. It may take a bit longer each day, but she should still be done by lunch time, and I have faith that she will do wonderfully! :)

I plan on doing a lot more with the triplets this year, then I did last year. They will be 4 1/2 in September, and because their birthday is 5 days after the cut off, they wouldn't be able to go to Kindergarten until next year. So they are still only preschool aged. I want to really work on letters and numbers, and other typical preschool stuff. I am not doing an official program or curriculum with them, but I have a TON of workbooks, worksheets, games, crafts, etc. I mainly want to get them used to spending time each day focused on learning.

With the return of school, comes the return of activities! Jade will be starting piano lessons again, and Kadance and Cole will be starting Speech Therapy again. I am going to try and sign the four older kids up for swimming lessons, and I am thinking of putting Kadance in gymnastics.

This summer, I have really enjoyed being able to relax, and take it easy. But I AM looking forward to getting back into a routine, and all of the fun that Fall will bring! :)

Weight loss Update - Week 12 & 13

Last week, I only lost 1 pound. After two 3 pound weeks in a row, I kind of expected to have a not as good week. But 1lb was good enough. It was all I needed to get under 200lbs!! Last week, my weight was 199.5lbs :)

Last week, I decided to step up my running, and try 4K! It felt really good, so I continued with 4K for Monday and Tuesday of this past week. But by Wednesday, my left calf was really hurting, so I went back down to 3.5K. My leg was quite sore, so after doing some research on Google, I determined that it was an overuse injury, and the best fix was to let my leg rest for a few days. So I took Thursday and Friday off of running, and my usual Saturday and Sunday off. After 4 full days of rest, my leg is feeling much better, and I am anxious to get back to running today! :) I am thinking I might switch to running 4 days a week, instead of 5. 5 days in a row is a bit too much, and I am really risking hurting myself, but I don't want to run on weekends. SO I think I might run Monday and Tuesday, take Wednesday off, run Thursday and Friday, and take the weekend off. I think I will try that this week, and see how it goes! :)

So this morning I weighed myself again, and my body definitely made up for it's meager 1 pound loss last week! I lost 4.5 lbs this week!! That brings me down to 195lbs!! That is a total weight loss of 30lbs in the last 3 months!!! I am SO happy, and feel full of potential! In July, when we were up at the lake, I was thinking about how nice it would be if I could get down to my pre-pregnancy-with-Sage weight, by Sage's 2nd birthday. At that time, it seemed like it would be really hard, and not very realistic. But now, I am only 6lbs away from that weight, and I still have a month until Sage's birthday - so I just might be able to do it! :)

Clean Sweep!

I feel like our house is in need of another clean sweep! Did I ever really finish the last one?! Probably not, but it's time to start again! :)

I think all of my kids have had too much sun, and too much water this summer, because they ALL grew! I just went through everyone's clothes in the Spring, and over the last few weeks, I have started to find too small clothes in their closets - again! So over the past week, I have gone through everyone's clothes, and pulled out a bunch more too small stuff!!

Now that I have pretty much decided we are done having babies, I am itching to get rid of all our baby stuff!! I would like to try and sell as much of it as I can (to pay for all the new clothes I need to buy everyone! lol!), but it takes a lot of time to take pictures of everything, and post in on the Swap and Buy I am a part of, on Facebook.

I just feel like going through every room in our house, deep cleaning, and de-cluttering! We are starting back to school in just under 2 weeks, so I need to hurry up and get a bunch done before I get too busy!! :)

A New Career!

I don't think I've mentioned this on my blog before, but back in March, Gairod decided to apply for the Calgary Fire Department. For a few years, he has talked about wanting to become a police officer or a firefighter, but he has never done anything about it.

He currently owns and runs his own portable welding business. He likes welding, but owning/running your own business is hard. I seems like he is always looking for work, and he has to take pretty much every job he is offered, because we never know what the next month will bring. It is NOT a steady income, we have no health benefits, and he has no pension.

So in March, when he saw that the Calgary Fire Department was hiring, he decided to apply. Applying to the Calgary Fire Department is a LONG process. There are SEVERAL different steps you have to get through, including the initial application and document check, the aptitude test, the lie detector test, the CPAT physical test, and more. It is about a six month process, that takes a lot of time and money, with NO guarantee that you will actually get offered a job at the end - IF you even make it to the end!

As he made it through the first couple of steps, we were excited, but we tried not to get our hopes up, knowing that there were hundreds of people who applied, but only a few dozen who would actually get in. At best, it was a long shot. But as he got further and further along in the process, it was hard to not start imagining him actually becoming a firefighter!!

While we were up at the lake, in mid-July, he was emailed a conditional job offer!!! We couldn't believe it, and were VERY excited!! He still had a few more things to get done, including finish his online modules, get his class 3 license, and pass his medical exam and treadmill test.

As of last Thursday, he has completed and passed everything!!! He has orientation on September 1st, and starts training classes on Sept 19th. We are THRILLED!! This will be the beginning of a whole new life for us! He will still keep his welding company, and do some welding on the side, as once he finishes his training, he will be on a 4 days on, 4 days off schedule. The fire department has great health benefits, a great pension plan, and great job security. We couldn't be happier!! :)

Done having babies?!

Anyone who has read this blog for a while, knows that I have NOT wanted to be done having babies. Since my pregnancy with Sage, I have had my heart set on having just one more! ♥ Gairod however, has felt very done.

Several months ago, I started to entertain the idea of being done. What if we don't have another baby? What are some of the 'pros' to being done? For quite a while I was on the fence. I could see several good points to being done, but I also still had a major longing to be pregnant, give birth, and have a newborn baby - just one more time!

Lately however, I have started to feel more and more done. As Sage gets closer to 2 years old, she is becoming more independent. I like that she can play with the older kids now, miss the occasional nap, and is overall just more self sufficient. I am finally starting to find more time for myself - and I have really been enjoying my new found freedom!

I was originally hoping to have another baby by the time Sage was 2-2 1/2. Obviously that is not happening. Sage loves her older siblings, and she does her best to play with and keep up with them whenever she can. I am afraid if we had one more spaced too far apart, he/she would be left out, especially if it was a boy. We have tried, and/or left things to chance MANY times over the past 2 years, and have yet to end up pregnant, so I am really starting to feel like it just isn't meant to be. I have started to think about moving Kadance up with Sage once she is in a bed, so that the little girls could share a room, the boys would share a room, and Jade could have her own room. I am even starting to get the urge to start getting rid of baby stuff, which I have stored in the garage.

As I am starting to get more time for myself, starting to get control of my weight, and really starting to feel happy and content, I am really thinking we might be done having babies. I never thought I would feel this way, especially not before having number six, but I am, and it feels good. I will always have fond memories of the pregnancy and newborn stage, but I realize that at some point everyone has to move on, and I think it might be that time for us.

I haven't told Gairod any of this yet, as I want to sit on it a bit more, and make sure that I am really comfortable with being done. I know that once I tell him, there will be no going back! lol! :)

Weightloss Update - Week 11

I lost another 3 lbs this week!!! YAY!! I have now lost a total of 24.5 pounds, bringing my current weight down to 200.5 lbs. As long as everything continues to go well, I should be out of the 200's next week! :) The last time I was below 200, was when I was pregnant with Sage - over 2 years ago!

This week I increased my running by 5 minutes. So I now warm up for 2 minutes, run for 25 minutes, then cool down for 3 minutes, for a total of 30 minutes. My total distance each day is 3.5K. My goal is to eventually get up to 5K a day.

This weekend we were at the mall, and on a whim, I decided to try on some pants. Last time I bought pants was back in the Spring, and they were a 34. They are getting quite big on me now, so I was curious to see what size I would actually fit in. I figured it would probably be a 32. So I popped into my favorite store, and went straight to the jeans I usually get. I started flipping through the sizes, and of course, they didn't have any 32's. So I grabbed a 33 and a 31, figuring there was no way the 31 would fit, but it was worth a shot! Then I found a 32 in the short length pants (I am NOT short, and definitely need regular length!) so I figured I could try them on for fit - I wasn't actually planning on buying any pants anyways, I just wanted to see what size I would be in.

So I tried on the 33's, and like I figured, they were too big. Then I tried on the 32's, and to my surprise, they were too big too!! So I tried on the 31's, and they fit!! I couldn't believe it!! That's 3 sizes smaller then the last pants I bought! I was so excited that I bought them! lol!
