Today we took the kids swimming. This is something we try to do fairly often, since the kids LOVE it, and it is a nice family outing! The only problem is we always have to rely on one or two other people being able to come with us to help out. Up until now, we have always need at least one person per baby, and if we can, someone for Jade, so that she can go do fun things, like the water slide and diving board! The thing is, I HATE relying on other people, and get really frustrated when we want to go swimming, and no one is available to help out!
Today was one of those days. We tried calling a few people, but everyone was busy, or didn't feel like coming. So we went by ourselves! We have only done this one other time, when the triplets were quite a bit younger, and it was VERY hard, and not very fun. We basically just had to sit in the tot pool and hold babies!
Today it was a lot easier, and a lot more fun!! The triplets are big enough now, that they can wear life jackets, and comfortably walk around in the shallow pool. It got a little tricky at times when they would all try to go in different directions, but we managed to keep them all together, and no one drowned! I told Gairod having triplet toddlers in the swimming pool with only us, is a lot like playing basketball - we have to switch from man-on-man defense, to zone defense, basically moving to whichever kids are closest to us at any given time!
The only down-fall, is that Jade wasn't able to go off and do fun stuff. She is a fairly good swimmer, and I totally trust her judgement in the water, but I still don't feel comfortable with her going to the deep end or water slide, by herself. Today we lucked out though, because one of Jade's friends from school happened to be there, and I am friendly with her mom, so Jade spent some time in the deeper pool with them!
I am proud and happy that we were able to successfully take our family swimming, without needing anyone else! It gives me confidence and reassurance, that some things ARE starting to get easier, and we CAN still be a normal family, even with triplets! :)
